After retiring I was looking for a slower pace and a warmer climate. I found both in Atenas. The town center is a beautiful park with a variety of shops 3 or 4 blocks in every direction. There are many great places to eat and ample medical services with English speaking professionals. The weather is great year round, with temps between 65 and 85 degrees most days.
I found my apartment online more than 3 years ago and I do not plan on leaving. Living on Franks family property has been wonderful. As a retired woman living alone in a foreign country, I have always felt safe with Frank nearby. Having a landlord who speaks English and lives on the property is a real plus. I do not own a car. On many occasions Frank has provided a ride and the help needed in communicating with people.

I love my cozy little bungalow in the jungle! Atenas is a lovely town where it never gets too hot or too cold. Up in the hills but not too far from the beach! And Franck has been beyond generous with accommodations. Nothing like feeling safe and comfortable in a foreign country! If ever I come back to Costa rica, I know where I'm staying!

It was my first time being in Costa Rica and I do not speak any Spanish. I was nervous to say the least, but Frank and his hospitality took away all my worries. Any questions and concerns I had were answered. You have total privacy, yet also the option to go meet some of the other travelers. The views of the mountains and The Hidden Waterfall are a must-see. The place is really "one of a kind." The land is beautiful and the town of Atenas is very friendly. I enjoyed my stay so much I returned within 4 months for my second stay and I am already planning my 3rd. This is the perfect place for a Costa Rica get-away!
